Savings Series: 1 Tip to Save on the Phone Bill (aka MajicJack review)

If you have been spending money on a phone bill, I have great news for you. I tried out the MagicJack today, and so far, all I can think of is how awesome this product is.

I got the MajicJack for $40 for a whole year, following a one month free trial. Thus, essentially, I am spending $40/13 months = $3 each month. And all I need to call people are a phone set and a high speed internet.

Set up is extremely easy. You plug the phone in on one end of the device (which is so small that it fits in your palm), and plug the other end into a USB port of your computer. A simple UI then shows up, and you need to register your MagicJack by providing an email address, password, and physical location (for 911 service). Then you choose the first 6 digits of your phone number, and within a minute or two, your MagicJack is initialized and you can start calling and receiving unlimited phone calls within the US.

The best part yet is that you can take your MagicJack (and the number that was assigned to you) all over the world, and call US phone numbers for free. A big portion of my phone bill is spent in international calls to South East Asia where my mother lives. If the international dialling for free really works, we will collectively save hundreds of dollars each month on international phone bills. I have already mailed a MagicJack to her, which she should get in the next 2 weeks. I will be sure to update you about how it works.

Try this product out, especially if you can get the try one month for free deal. I am sure you will not regret it.

Not a bad idea! if i didn’t have it all packaged in with our cable/internet subscriptions, I’d totally check it out. I think our renewal actually comes up this summer, so it’ll be worth taking the time to check out other options :)
